Days 41 and 42 - At Sea in the South Pacific

Friday February 17, and Saturday February 18, 2012

Not a lot to report on other than we continue to "beach it" by the pool, do Yoga, knit and talk.

There was a talent show in the afternoon which featured passengers and we went thinking it would be pretty amateur, and were surprised at the calibre of talent.  Singers, poets, comedians and the HAL Chorus - all top notch and very very well attended.

The highlight of Friday was the show which featured a mind reader, Graeme Jolley from the UK.  dessert Lynn told us about him, and I had a premonition that I might be chosen to come on stage.  We all rushed immediately to the main floor of the Queen's Lounge.  Usually we sit up in the balcony so that we can make an early escape without much fuss.  Sure enough towards the end of this show he asked me to come up on stage.  This guy was extremely funny - with that quick British humour, and he was especially skilled at "reading our minds.   For my part - he asked 3 people to write a 3 digit number on a pad of paper - and he didn't look at the numbers, and handed it over to me.  He asked me to pick a number but not to tell him.. as soon as I did, he said " I don't like that number, pick another one.   My number was 142.  He handed me the Las Angeles telephone book and told me to open it to the page with my number on it.   How many columns on the page?  Four.  Pick one.  Three.  Read to yourself the name at the top of column 3.   Chenney, Winston, Jr......   he wrote Chenney on a big pad of paper!!!!!!  Then he asked me if the first digit in his phone number was 3.. Yes.. then he writes the correct phone number on his paper!   Dazzling.

Saturday we decided to invite Mr Jolley to our table for dinner - Jonathan and Karen were eating with us, and we thought it would be fun..  3 of us left him a message, but we never heard from him - he must be getting off in American Samoa.

This was also a sad day, as one of the people we have met and whose company we have enjoyed, George is getting off the ship, because he has been in severe pain for a few weeks and the doctor thinks he has gall bladder problems which they are not equipped to deal with on board.  He is to have an MRI, and if the diagnosis is correct he can go to Sydney or home for surgery.  We will really miss George.

This lady was hilarious and could be on TV.
